Halo: Campaign Evolved Set to Launch July 28 with Early Access for Premium and Collectors Editions

If you thought the original Halo: Combat Evolved was the pinnacle of FPS nostalgia, the upcoming remake promises to deliver that same adrenaline with a fresh, modern twist.

On July 28 2026, Halo: Campaign Evolved will hit Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC worldwide. Owners of the Digital Premium Edition or the Collector’s Edition get a five‑day head start, beginning July 23 2026. The early‑access window is a reward for pre‑orders, which, according to Xbox Wire’s June 7 announcement, include a Foundry Armor Pack and early‑access play.

The Collector’s Edition, which sold out shortly after launch, ships with a steel‑book disc, a voucher for the Premium upgrade, and in‑game cosmetics. Retail partners reported no evidence of widespread scalping; a handful of suspicious orders were refunded and the units returned to inventory.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Campaign Evolved keeps the core narrative of the 2001 campaign while adding new gameplay elements. Players can hunt for 39 collectible “Skull” modifiers that change visual and mechanical aspects. Three skulls hide in each of the original ten missions, and three new prequel missions set a year before the first game introduce additional skulls. Unlocking a skull requires finding it in the environment; it cannot be applied without discovery.

Co‑operative play is available in split‑screen local and online modes. On Xbox Series X|S, both local players must have unique Microsoft accounts; online co‑op requires an active Xbox Game Pass subscription. PlayStation 5 players need signed‑in PlayStation accounts linked to Microsoft accounts for local play, and PlayStation Plus for online co‑op. Steam players must link a Microsoft account to participate.

The remake also offers a third‑person perspective that can be enabled after locating the “Perspective” skull in one of the missions. This optional mode does not alter the core campaign.

Other notable additions include a “Stanchion” weapon exclusive to the prequel missions, a “Mark IV” armor set available only in the bonus missions, and a “Difficulty Modifiers” system that lets each player adjust damage resistance, shield recharge, damage output, melee damage, and ammo options. These modifiers help balance encounters when playing with multiple players.

There is no photo mode, theater mode, or public demo. The developers have stated that the title will focus on remaking the original campaign and the three new missions, with no plans for a live‑service model or additional downloadable content after launch.

Players can customize their Spartan’s appearance, but these customizations do not appear in cutscenes. The game’s “Blind Skull” removes HUD elements, and the “Acrophobia Skull” allows flight, providing opportunities for screenshots.

The release schedule is straightforward: the full game will be available on July 28 2026. Premium and Collector’s Edition owners can start playing on July 23 2026, five days earlier. No other early‑access windows are announced.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is part of Halo Studios’ broader strategy to bring the franchise to multiple platforms beyond Xbox. The remake follows the 2021 release of Halo Infinite and the 2024 rebranding of 343 Industries to Halo Studios.

The title’s launch follows a series of trailers and gameplay videos, including a cinematic story trailer, a new missions trailer titled “Operation: Meteorite,” and a 28‑minute gameplay demo of “Assault on the Control Room.” These materials highlight the new skulls, remix system, and co‑op features.

In summary, Halo: Campaign Evolved will arrive on July 28 2026 across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Early access for Premium and Collector’s Editions begins July 23. The game offers a remastered campaign, three new missions, collectible skulls, split‑screen and online co‑op, a third‑person view, and difficulty modifiers, but no live‑service content or photo mode.
