Tay Keith, Producer Behind Travis Scotts Sicko Mode, Dies at 29

Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, known professionally as Tay Keith, died on June 18 2026 at the age of 29. The 29‑year‑old producer was found dead in his Nashville apartment after Metro Nashville Police conducted a welfare check. Police said the death was not suspicious and no foul play was suspected. The cause of death has not yet been released.

Chambers was born September 20 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee. He began making beats at 14 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration in media management from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018. While still a student, he produced the track that would become a global hit.

In 2018, Tay Keith co‑produced Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” the single that topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a nomination for Best Rap Song at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. The same year he produced Drake’s “Nonstop,” BlocBoy JB’s “Look Alive,” and Eminem’s “Not Alike.” His work on these tracks helped him establish a reputation as one of the most sought‑after producers in contemporary hip‑hop.

Keith’s catalog also includes the 2023 single “Pound Town” with Sexyy Red, his first chart entry as a lead artist. He signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music and was a member of the Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) performance‑rights organization.

The producer’s death was first reported by TMZ, which cited a Metro Nashville Police statement. The news was subsequently covered by Billboard, Rolling Stone, Vulture, USA Today, and the BBC, among other outlets. No statements have yet been released by artists who worked with Keith, including Travis Scott, Drake, Beyoncé, or Eminem.

Industry observers note that Keith’s sudden passing comes at a time when the hip‑hop production scene is experiencing a wave of young talent. His early decision to complete his education while building a high‑profile career is often cited as an example of balancing academic and artistic pursuits.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has confirmed that the welfare check was routine and that the investigation is ongoing. No foul play is suspected, and authorities have not released a cause of death.

At present, the music community and fans are awaiting further details. The producer’s death has prompted tributes on social media, but official statements from collaborators or his management team have not yet been issued.

The case remains open, with police continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. No additional information is available at this time.
