Paramount Home Entertainment Opens Digital Purchase Window for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1

Paramount Home Entertainment (PHE) announced on June 15 that the first season of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be available for digital purchase. The 10‑episode season, which premiered on the streaming service on January 15, 2026, can now be bought on a variety of digital platforms, including iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon Video.

The move follows the series’ launch on Paramount+ and provides fans of the long‑running franchise with a way to own the complete first season. The digital release includes over an hour of bonus content: the featurettes First Year and Mario Magic: Props, a gag reel, and three deleted scenes.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is the 12th television series in the Star Trek franchise and the first to be set in the 32nd century, a time period first explored in the later seasons of Star Trek: Discovery. The show follows a group of cadets training to become Starfleet officers at the eponymous academy. The main cast features Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard as the cadets, with Holly Hunter portraying the academy’s chancellor. Instructors include Tig Notaro, Robert Picardo (returning as the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager), and Gina Yashere.

Guest appearances in the first season include Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman, and Paul Giamatti. The series was created by Gaia Violo and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. Production of season one took place from August 2024 to February 2025 at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Toronto, Canada.

The season premiered on Paramount+ with its first two episodes on January 15, 2026. The remaining eight episodes were released weekly, concluding on March 12. While the series received generally favorable reviews from critics, it also faced review bombing during its initial release.

In March 2026, CBS and Paramount+ announced that a second season would be produced but that it would be the final season of the series, with a 2027 premiere expected.

PHE, the home‑video distribution arm of Paramount Pictures, has overseen the digital and physical release of a wide range of Paramount content, including Paramount Players, Nickelodeon Movies, and Paramount Animation titles. The division’s role in distributing Star Trek: Starfleet Academy digitally is part of its broader strategy to make Paramount’s streaming library available for purchase.

The digital release of season one comes at a time when the Star Trek franchise continues to expand its television footprint. The series’ focus on a new generation of cadets, including the first openly gay Klingon character played by Karim Diané, has added fresh narrative angles to the franchise’s long‑standing themes of diversity and exploration.

For fans who missed the original Paramount+ run, the digital purchase option provides a convenient way to own the complete season and access the additional featurettes and deleted scenes that were not included in the streaming version. The release is expected to generate additional revenue for Paramount while extending the life of the series beyond its streaming window.

The digital availability of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season one is now active on all major digital storefronts. Viewers can purchase the season in standard or high‑definition formats, with the bonus content bundled in the same package.

The decision to release the season digitally reflects a broader industry trend of offering streaming content for purchase, allowing audiences to own their favorite shows while still benefiting from the convenience of on‑demand viewing.

As Paramount continues to support its Star Trek franchise, the digital release of Starfleet Academy season one underscores the company’s commitment to making its content accessible across multiple platforms.

The next step for the series is the scheduled 2027 premiere of its final season, which will conclude the story arc that began with the 2026 debut.
