Perfect Garbages Grave Seasons Blends Farming Sim and Horror in a Genre-Mashup Thats Capturing Indie Fans

Perfect Garbage’s upcoming title Grave Seasons is a supernatural murder‑mystery farming simulator that was first revealed at the 2025 Summer Game Fest. The game is being published by Blumhouse Games, a Los Angeles‑based studio founded in February 2023 by Jason Blum to partner with indie developers on horror‑focused projects.

The core idea behind Grave Seasons came from the studio’s co‑founders, Son M. and Emmett Nahil, who both love farming sims and horror games. According to Narrative Designer Luca Azenaro‑Acero, the team “smash[ed] these two things together” to create a title that keeps the “cozy” farming mechanics intact while adding “gore and pure horror.” The result is a game that lets players harvest crops, fish, mine, and build relationships with townsfolk in the rural setting of Ashenridge, while also investigating murders that occur each season.

A key feature that keeps the mystery from feeling disjointed is the journal system. Azenaro‑Acero explained that when a body is found, the player collects clues that are automatically logged in the journal. These clues become quests, and the journal helps players keep track of what they’ve discovered. The system also allows for a romance option with the killer, a marketing point the studio highlighted. If the player romances the killer, the experience stays relatively light; if the killer is a different character in another playthrough, the game shifts to a darker tone.

The narrative team is composed of Azenaro‑Acero and Narrative Director Emmett Nahil. They cite classic farming sims such as Harvest Moon as a major influence on the game’s “cozy” aspects. Azenaro‑Acero noted that the game’s design aims to give players who enjoy cozy games “a place to feel at home” while also delivering the tension of a horror mystery.

Community response has been strong. After the Summer Game Fest reveal, players added Grave Seasons to wishlists on Steam and other platforms. The studio’s social media channels report that fans are creating fan art and promoting the game. Azenaro‑Acero thanked the community for its support and urged players to explore other indie titles, noting that “the more people play them, the more legitimacy they gain.”

Blumhouse Games’ partnership with Perfect Garbage fits the publisher’s strategy of supporting horror‑centric indie projects. The studio’s previous release, Love Shore, debuted in 2023 and demonstrated Perfect Garbage’s ability to blend narrative depth with unique gameplay. Grave Seasons builds on that foundation by adding a farming loop that serves as a counterpoint to the game’s supernatural elements.

The game’s release window is still under development, but early footage released in March 2026 shows the player’s first interactions with the town, the farming mechanics, and the first hint of a looming threat. The footage also highlights the game’s visual style, which mixes pastoral landscapes with eerie, atmospheric lighting.

Overall, Grave Seasons represents a deliberate attempt to merge two traditionally separate genres. By maintaining distinct mechanics—farming, romance, and mystery—the studio hopes to appeal to both cozy‑game enthusiasts and horror fans, challenging the stigma that either genre is “not real” gaming. The community’s enthusiasm and the backing of Blumhouse Games suggest that the title will be a notable entry in the indie scene when it launches.
