The red carpet at Jazz at Lincoln Center, was full of stars. Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill shared a laugh above as they attended the NYC premiere of the film Don’t Look Up.

Jennifer Lawrence was in full bloom, offering sideways views of her pregnant tummy. She wore a pale gold and shimmering, silk Dior dress with a semi-sheer cape.

Meryl Streep chose a more “schoolmarm in mourning” look, wearing a black Marc Jacobs dress Wolford tights and Fred Leighton jewelry. Streep plays the president of the United States in the movie, so it is only fitting that she dress somberly, I suppose. Not that her president is traditional. Her character is an egomaniac who cares more about herself than the country. Sound familiar?

Jonah Hill and his girlfriend Sarah Brady wore matching teal suits, with matching satin slippers. Jonah’s expansive chest tattoo served as a wonderful accent piece.

The movie opens in select theaters on December 10, 2021 and has a wider debut on December 24, 2021, to cash in on the holiday box office. The premise promises great laughs, as it’s a political satire, with two astronomers (Lawrence and DiCaprio) who embark on a large media campaign to inform the world that there is a giant comet approaching that will destroy the world. Since NASA is currently practicing how to save the world from asteroid destruction with DART (Double Astroid Redirection Test), the movie plot sounds more realistic than I want to think about.

When Streep and DiCaprio try to tell the world that something has to be done to stop annihilation, no one takes them seriously. The press makes a joke out of it and the president doesn’t help their preservation efforts, which is reminiscent of Trump, Covid and the media that decided to push the idea that the pandemic was nothing worse than the flu.

In addition to its message about the perils of incompetent leadership, the cast also hopes the movie will place attention on the dangers of climate change.
